6th Grade Art

Curriculum & Student Work

Experimental Printmaking

Students will be exploring four different types of printmaking that will inform their planning for their final printmaking project. Each student will choose one of the four printmaking methods explored to create a final print with a pattern of their own design.

Foil Printing

Styrofoam Printing

Collagraph & Found Object Printmaking

Creative Value Scale Drawings

Students will explore drawing through this project in which they learn a wide range of drawing techniques and explore value. Students will create a drawing that creatively includes a hidden value scale or gradient. This project builds the foundation for drawing skills that will grow throughout the entire course of the year.

Texture Play with Clay

In this unit, students will explore making different marks and textures on clay using a variety of tools and objects. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with the clay and tools/objects before deciding on a final design for their mugs. The students will develop an artist statement to explain the texture and design decisions of their final mug.

Egyptian Style Portraits

Students will create Egyptian style portraits of their choice using oil pastels. This project coincides with the ancient Egypt unit in their 6th Grade Ancient World History classes.
